Iglesia Jesús Nazareno de Caguach
Description
Resources
The Jesus Nazarene Church of Caguach (Iglesia Jesus Nazareno de Caguach) is a Catholic temple located in Caguach Island, municipality of Quinchao.

This church was built in the year 1778 and completely destroyed during a fire in 1919, a new construction being finished in 1925 by the inhabitants of the municipality. There is a particularly important esplanade, where the festivity of its patron saint, Jesus Nazarene, takes place. This is one of the most important festivities of the Chiloé archipelago and dates from 1778, when five communities of nearby islands committed to venerating the image of Jesus Nazarene brought from Spain by Franciscan missionary Friar Hilario Martínez.

It was declared National Monument in November 2000 and World Heritage by UNESCO in the same year. Its main festivity is celebrated on August 30 every year, honoring Jesus Nazarene.
